A quote from "Tea for Three", a book on the New York Times best seller
list, came to mind when passing a mural on Great Margaret Street.
Speaking of attitudes towards eliminating illiteracy, Greg Mortenson
says -"If you educate a boy, you educate an individual. If you educate
a girl, you educate a community". This painting is called the "Soho
Mural – Ode to the West Wind", 1989 by Louise Vines for London Wall.
Another part of the mural is shown on a previous posting. What does this mural say about education? The straight depiction of reading a book. Is it Art?, or give anything to anyone- other than as a token gesture. This seems to have been created when other ideas were not forthcoming… a man asks if the rest of the tour has arrived- when do we set off?
