Inspiring quotes, part of the Language of Conservation program, are located throughout the Jacksonville Zoo. This quote is located in the Asian Bamboo Gardens.
Language of Conservation is a collaborative project between libraries, zoos, and poets nationwide to replicate a project done at the Central Park Zoo (2008), in which careful curation, design, and installation of poetry throughout the zoo enhanced visitor thinking about wildlife conservation. This national model has been replicated and launched at five zoos – Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens (FL), Brookfield Zoo (IL), Little Rock Zoo (AR), Milwaukee County Zoo (WI), and the Audubon Zoo (LA). By replicating the model in these five unique cities, it will demonstrate the far-reaching potential of poetry and museums for creating a shared language with visitors that explores new ways of thinking about exhibit themes and about poetry.
